water from the tank goes into the sump, gets oxygenated, returns to tank.

so if i use a sump or wet/dry filter, then i wouldn't need air pumps in the tank?

A wet dry gives plenty of oppertunity for gas exchange to take place hence no pumps plus you can use your sump as a heater chamber so you have no heater in tank. Good thing if you have fish that eat stuff like that ,my RTC does,heaters,thermomiters,small pumps,ect

look unless you silicone the tank shut its not an airtight container O2 will get to the tank just fine-Anne
