Fish export from Venezuela....what do you think?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i think if you only sell big rare fish you will not make a fantastic living out out of it, stock as many different species as possible. you are going to have to find out freight cost's and all that sort of stuff, i think you will get a lot of business if you can provide qualliyt fish at good prices.

Good Luck

I agree.....you´re rigth. I´ll have to deal with some expenses and small fishes can produce pocket money, and you´re rigth....i have to be known in the market. "Quality fish at good price" thats what im thinking about !!!...
Doglegdd could you give me more info?, a was born and lived almost all my life in Venezuela, but any help and contacts will be very welcome...;)

Do you know where lake Guri is at? My father owns a camp there and theres several other buisness men living in that area, mostly Americans who have a thing for young women. I will talk to my dad and see if he is ok with me passing out his info and get back with you.

From what I understand for exporters is that Tetra feed the family, while large rare fish are something specially requested and/or a rare finding..

HOWEVER.. MFK is the user base to sell Venezuela rays.. if you could get an importer to work with you stateside (Mike, Brad, etc) then I think alot of people would buy oddball rays! :)

I know where Guri is, i´ve been fishing and diving there a few times. Ill be waiting for your PM ;)
....so Tetra will feed me too !!!

Thanks.... :)

Yeah, I think it's a great idea too...you might want to look into shipping routes from within Venezuela too. Like how many Venezuela airports would have direct flight to which U.S./International airports, etc. I'm not quite familiar with Venezuela aiports but I believe there are only 2 direct flights a week from Toronto, Canada to Venezuela. So the cargo space might be packed and it might ended up costing more than shipping locally to Columbia and exporting out from there. Just a thought.

I think there's only 3 flights a week from Colombia to Toronto, and my last shipment was 'on hold' after being confirmed for over 3 weeks. The bonus with there vs. Peru is that it's only a 6 hour flight to Toronto - very short transit time.

Research your overhead cost, what you need to make each months for business expenses, like water bill, electric bill, food for the fishes, etc....Cost of all the fishes you planned to stock your shop with on a monthly basis, make a list of all the fish shops that you want to have their business, find out how much those places are paying per fish on each types like which tetra kinds, then figure out what can you offer them in quality and prices compare to what amount you will end up in profit. Is the profit enough to cover overhead expenses of running a business and still leave you with a good amount of profit? After all these things are calculated, you are in the green light....GO FOR IT!
I hope this is helpful! Trying to help and share like other cool members of MFK!

Thanks to all of you !!!....
Now im making my own numbers, but for a different plan. Im thinking about running the bussines here in Spain, and buy the fishes from my own bussines in Venezuela. Its still a plan...and i know itll take a lot of time to be completed but i want to cover as many aspects as possible.

Hi you all !!!

Ok, i have the chance to set up an fish export operation in Venezuela. I can get all the permits and hole stuff but the most important thing is: do you guys think that this is a good idea?. Of course i dont want to sell a lot of small fishes like neons and things like that, i want to set up a real and serious only big/rare fish dealing (stingrays, pike cichlids, catfish, loricarids, big cichlids). I´m waiting for your opinion....doesnt matter if you are hobbist or vendor, need both !!

Thanx in advance....this is very important to me.
Are you exporting now i am looking for a supplier
