You can but some fish won’t eat it, fish like silver dollars will eat lettuce and clown loaches will eat boiled cucumber. What fish do you have.
Lettuce makes a mess but there are various other options.

I've tiny pieces of banana(it makes a mess otherwise), slices of mango, zucchini, cucumber, melon, cantaloupe, red pepper, spinach, etc...I always add them fresh (washed)
It all depends on the fish you've got, whether they like it or not.
