Fish for my 125 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I vote for oscar :D
Really great fish and they're extremely cheap

oscar+ a few species of bichirs for the bottom is what I would get if I had the tank :P maybe another cichlid if you think your tank can handle it

the usual math for housing an oscar is u need five times the flow rate as the amount of water in your fish tank
example
125 gallons = 5 x 125 = 625 Gallons per hour is what you wana be running with a canister

ya defenitly everything you listed will out grown the 125 except the oscar or green terror
which u could only have two in the 125 and maybe a couple small tank mates
everything eles you will run into space issues and water quality issues
it not fun doing 50% water changes every 3 day just to keep water in check.

it wouldnt make his water quality that bad I have 4 african pikes and a temensis pbass is a 75g atm and theyre all about 6-7" and I checked the water yesterday before i did my every other weekly water change and it was
0 amonia
0 nitrites
and 5.0 nitrates
and those are messy fish

Whats the difference between an asian redtail and a redtail. My fish shop has some asian redtails for 5.00 and then they have plain redtails for a LOT more

I dont knwo the exact differences but i think regular rtc's look better

I'm abit curiouse as to why your not going w/ African cichlids as you stated? what about them is so expensive?

It costs like 300 dollars plus for a well stocked compatible mbuna tank. For example the demasoni. You have to buy them in large groups like 20 and around more than half die off due to the agression of the pack. Then you have to keep buying more until you have a full compatible group of around 20. Thats one example that i read about.
One other thing, when you buy fish as juveniles, you cant always tell if they are male or female, therefore not getting the proper male/female ratio and then this causes problems

Id rather go for something that requires less work

Plus, theres no good place near me that sells a good selection of african cichlids. Petco is out of the question

And

Red Devil and Green terror combo!!!! Get a gt let it get used to the tank, add dithers and put in a Red Devil when everyone's settled!!!! Your tank will look so good with these fish. OR you could go African and get LESS AGGRESSIVE FISH!!!!!
Like the cynotilapia species!

Honestly I have talked myself back into an african cichlid setup. Only, instead of doing mbuna im gonna go the all male peacock and hap route.

In my experience Mbuna are less aggressive and relatively dont nip at tails because they are vegetarians. Peacocks are carnivorous. BUT THEY ARE SO PRETTY! Get a couple of Eureka Peacocks. Very cool fish.
