I have a synodontis catfish in one of my tanks. He is usually quite happy, with dorsal fin erect while he patrols my substrate looking for food. However, unlike every other fish I have, he goes BONKERS during and shortly after water changes. Most of my fish, especially cichlids, play with the python and in the incoming freshwater stream. The syno, however, nearly kills himself as he swims wildly in all directions. Mind you, this is aged water, treated, at the same temperature as the tank water. What do you think is up with him? Do any of your fish act the same way?

He's just upset that somthing strange is happening to his tank....Some fish are like that...while others love it...

Of the near 100 fish I have ever had, he is the first and only

Was the cat wild caught as an adult? In my experience, some fish just spazz out during WCs. The big Channel cats I have at work also get jumpy during wcs, but my bullhead at home doesn't. Go figure. I don't know if I could get used to a huge tube sucking half of the air out of my living room while an eight foot tall hand rearranged my furniture.

I have one syndonis cat out of 40 that I'm growing out for breeding pairs that dives headfirst INTO THE LIFT TUBE ON THE hYDRO5...

He swims furiously fo up to 10 minutes but he never manages to get very far before bieng tossed out by the current. Syn's are just wierd....

its just in some fishs nature. my LSN was rlly skiddish anytime i did a WC or put my hand in the tank. jus part of a fishs' individual personality, I guess.

lol, I love the guy though. When I throw in flake food, he swims in an upward spiral, breaks the surface with only his whiskers, they swims stomach up until all the flakes are gone. When he is full, he does a nose dive in a downward spiral, stops before hitting the bottom, and goes back to resting upsidedown under his favorite driftwood

I have an electric yellow that spazes out everyday when I turn the lights off. Who knows.

The 'spazzing' out effect is probably a result of being confined in a glass box.

If they were in the wild, they would dash a few hundred feet and then chill out. That's what they probably think they are doing slamming into the walls, but the environment dosn't change and the w/c continues to stress em out.
