fish have ick, and tank has clown loaches in it. help.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have loaches and peacocks in my 220, one of the loaches got ich and the a few more did so I raised the temps slightly over 5 days, used salt and use ich meds and left filter cartridge in filters and also didnt use full dosage, ich appears to be gone but still treating for a few more days.

See I don't have any live plants, so not too worried about any of that. Just worried about getting these guys healthy again. But thank-you for all your help. I am going to go look at some of the places around me and see if I can find any of the medications that are more...herbal than all the chemicals for them and if not then I will be getting another heater and adding more salt.

Temperature is the best way to go, its very effective and is less stressful than any meds you can find. Salt isnt really needed though. I have treated ich six times with just temperature and no salt. My fastest cure time is 2 days

after you move the loaches to the hosp tank. do a 50 waterchange on the big tank, turn up heat to 86 and treat with med. the loach hosp tank run at 86-88 as well. ad 1 level tablespoon. next day increase by 1/2 teaspoon. watch closely too much salt can burn. increase in very small amounts everyday for 3-5 days. if needed do a 25 water change and repeat 1/2 teaspoons daily. cut salt dosage in half if you feel more comfy with that.
theres a sticky somewhere that lists the max amount of salt per gal of water for a certain period of time. use the search. ill look for it when i get home too

My cousins tank is going through the same thing so we did a 50% wc, add the salt.now 15% wc daily.Idk if keeping the lights off helps the healing process but his is off for the meantime. Now its looking better....GL hope this help

At 86-90 degrees the DNA of the ich parasite gets scrambled when it tries to divide into more ich, thats why you dont need salt

I actually found a medicine today while looking at all different places that is specifically for loaches and other sensitive fish like them. The heat is up at 86 and the carbon is all out of my filters and it's been in a few hours. I have the lights off too. They're all eating still and swimming around, the one loach is acting a little slower which makes me nervous, but I am hoping he will pull through. I am hoping this works for them. It's ick gaurd II by jungle labs.
