Ok so i caught one thing in the trap and it's about 2-2 1/2 inches long... dunno what it is but it's mouth is strange, kinda big, has one stripe down it's body, stripes going up and down his body and a round top fin.

Image kinda stink...

help!

If it is a minnow should i still put it in my native tank?

One more thing, it's black at the top and silverish at the bottom, it's mouth seems to point upward and the top lip is biggish but the thing is the fins are very very rounded.

I am not very good with the itty bitty fish but it looks like a top minnow to me. Not sure what kind, but I would deffinatly keep it. Anything is worth keeping. ITS FREE!

Thanks, i am making another trap because i only made one and this was my first try at catching something and i did, so i am making 1 more smaller trap... any ideas on food?

Edit: my "minnow" has teath, and i read they don't have teath, but mine does, i openned it;s mouth and ran my finger infront of it and it felt like grip tape...also from the top the body looks wide.

Food for the "minnow"? Flakes should work fine. As for food for the trap try some canned catfood. I hear it works great.

Hmm, more pictures, tried more detail but my pc cam is ***...i am getting a better one soon.

Yeah looks like a minnow, maybe a mummichog.

Maybe a chub, but it says minnows have 7-9 spikes on their top fin, this guy has 11.

IMO i think its a grey fathead minnow. they dont get big and you can buy them for 12 cents and feeders at petco

Ok....I have ruled out chub, killi, and topminnow....has to be some type of minnow. Maybe you are counting the rays wrong. Try and count them at the base of the dorsal fin. Should be 8.
