I bought this little guy today for $5.99, assuming he's a Mayan but either way a good deal. I just wanted to post a picture and get a (hopefully) positive ID on him. Thanks to anyone who'll try. He hasn't fully got comfortable in the tank yet so he's lacking a bit of his color that he had at the store, but hopefully he has enough to get an ID out of.

You may want to get some HITH disease meds soon for the little fella. Maybe some early stages of fin rot as well.

Assuming you're talking about the spot above his eye there, I was thinking HITH as well but to be honest, it looks more like a spot that was nipped at moreso than HITH. His fins need some healing as well which may or may not be the possible finrot you see. He was in an assorted c.a. tank, mostly run by a gigantic family of convicts, so he's been beaten around a little bit. I appreciate the warning though, and definitely plan to keep an eye on both of those.

Thats not a spot, Nor a bite mark. Its an infection, Looks like a couple are forming. Without treatment it will get worse and will leave a bigger scar. The fray at ALL fins and the whiteness isnt a good sign either. Id suggest some salt, increase heat, and melafix befor things get worse.

Well, I don't know what 'whiteness' you're seeing, but none of his fins have any whiteness to them barring the top fin's white markings. Like I said, he was in a way overcrowded tank and was taking a beating, which is why his fin's are the way they are. I've seen many a fish's fins damaged and heal without issue from it, and if you seen the tank he came from, I'm sure you'd understand more why it's nearly every fin that has some healing to do.

As for the mark on his head, when I said spot, I didn't mean it as in part of his markings, I was just referring to the placement of the wound. I'm not completely denying that it could be HITH, but I still think it could be a 'war wound' of sorts. Take my word though that I will be keeping an eye on it, and if I don't see it healing or if it begins to get worse, I will definitely be doing something about it.

Not trying to argue with you brother, just wanted to let you know what your dealing with before worse problems arise. If its Heximita, good chance your other fish could catch it, and if a secondary infection starts, it would be unlikely he would recover. But white pits along the lateral line = HITH.
Salt will help prevent secondary infection and heat will help him heal up faster. Be sure your nitrites are 0 and nitrates stay under 10ppm.
I hope you do take my suggestion, but if not, I wish you the best of luck with your new Mayan. It will grow up to be a nice fish.
