Was listed in my LFS as a PEACOCK GOBY. Any ideas on if that is accurate? Max size and such? The only pictures I can find on the web of a peacock goby do not look like these. Fish is about 1.5 inches. They were in a tank of 3-5 inch african cichlids.

Jade Sleeper Goby

Thank you all for the info, I didnt think the name was correct in the LFS. Now trying to find info on size etc.

Found some info....does it sound correct?

(cut and paste time)

Gobius is a Latin form of goby (I'm sure you know that). I did a search for "Jade goby" and came up with some sites that say they come from South America. One site says that Jade goby is the latest name - being used by retailers - for Dormitator maculatus. Do you have Baensch's Aquarium Atlas Vol 1? The picture is on page 833.

Per Baensch
"Hab: Mainly in brackish water of upper regions of estuaries and lagoons; also in fresh and salt water.

Social B.: During spawming season male is territorial

Food: Herbivore; in the wild, mainly feed on live, higher plants (for example - roots of water hyacinths) and algae as well as plant detritus. They also feed on insect larvae and small shrimp... When kept in tank, accept all current types of dry, live and frozen foods, (Tubifex, Mysis, etc.). Also like soft vegetables and gruit (tomatoes, bananas) as well as noodles. Will eat soft water plants. However, growing Java fern and hornwort in the tank is possible.

Temp - 72-75F
Length - 10", generally mature from 4"
tank length - 31"
range - bottom
difficulty - 3-4"
