Yes, it is what is called a "red terror". So the answer to your question is yes. Hence the problem with common names (or common abbreviations...).

The fish is exCichlasoma urophthalmus. Not Amphilophus festae.

False Red Terror, Mayan cichlid or Uro.

your pretty hardcore about this..

Hardcore like Chuck Norris.

Would you rather I had just answered, "Yes, the fish is a RT?"

There's no such thing as a "false red terror", they're both called red terrors.

Its like he said though, thats the problems with common names.

My guess is you are wanting a festae and which is what youre referring to as a red terror. Had he answered yes, youd have gotten it and then when you realized it wasnt the fish you were wanting, youd have been pissed and probably calling him out on here saying some dumbass told you it was one so you got it. Then it would have been explained that both fish are commonly referred to as red terrors and have to eat crow. (or at least thats the scenario played out on here before).

I have the same issue with "green texas", "blue texas" etc...NO such things as either, just some marketing term some stupid LFS or fish farmer came up with to sell their product to more people.

To get the best answers around here, best to use their latin names to avoid all confusion.

Ive never seen a mayan referred to as a red terror, only a false red terror...so there is such a thing in as much as there is such a thing as a red terror.

Theyre all made up common names by whoever wants to call them whatever they want. Like red texas, flowerhorn, KKBP etc. I mean who came up with "flowerhorn"? Thats a pretty stupid and general description of any hybrid if it needs to be.

Im the one who shorted it to RT. And I also know that their can be Mayan's that can be mistaken for A. Festae. Guess I should of just asked for an ID. Maybe then i wouldnt of gotten bombarded by guru's...
