Hardcore like Chuck Norris.

Would you rather I had just answered, "Yes, the fish is a RT?"

There's no such thing as a "false red terror", they're both called red terrors.
no sorry the Mayan is called the False Red Terror i have seen them tagged as Red Terror but its only because they want people to think they are Festaes in the fish store

I've only ever seen them labeled as red terrors or uros. Guess it's different in different places.

But come on, what is a false red terror? A cyan peaceful?

And Boose, I'll refrain from giving you any sort of help from here on out. ;)

Ive never seen a mayan referred to as a red terror, only a false red terror...so there is such a thing in as much as there is such a thing as a red terror.

My lfs never adds the word 'false' to the red terror. They simply label them as red terrors. I've explained to them on numerous occasions to write Uropthalmus on the tank but they say they buy them as red terrors so they sell them as the same. :screwy:

so many different ways people do things is so confusing to hew hobbyists. One of our old LFS's used to sell flowerhorns as trimacs if he thought trimacs were popular that particular week.:screwy: only adding to the trimac/ flowerhorn issue.

I guess its just a legitimate way of letting the customer know its not a festae, which seems like a change of pace from all the posts we read about on here where everyone gets the wrong fish 99.9% of the time.

Too bad they cant just use the latin names.

Guess I should of just asked for an ID. Maybe then i wouldnt of gotten bombarded by guru's...

No one claimed to be a guru and I think a valid point was made that common names are misleading and usually cause confusion.

If I were you, Id lighten up a little. If not, youll lose the battle of trying to block the flow of sensitivity tears with kleenexes on a daily basis.

Its not all kumbaya, flowers, drum circles, patchouli and hand holding around here...sometimes the answers you want/need arent delivered with a dozen roses and chocolates. :naughty:

The Uropthalmus, Festae question comes up a couple of times a month and is confusing to newer hobbiest. The common names have sucked in quite a few who bought an Uro and later were pissed to find out it's not a Festae, because they "bought" a Red Terror. It's the tail spot you have to look at. The Uro's spot is centered on the lateral line the Festae's spot is about 3/4 above the lateral line. Also the first set of bars on a Festae will form a y or 4 type shape.

Simple as that. I dont only look for "Festae" or "Red Terror" as labeled on the tank. If you do, you will most likely be disappointed. (If Festae is what you're in fact looking for). Just follow the rules above and you're golden.
