Fish ID?

Nothing about this fish indicates being a green sunfish, at this age it could be lots of things, but most likely bluegill, or a hybrid bluegillXWho knows

The large mouth and the number of vertical bars rule out bluegill; 'gills have 8-10 regular, distinctively "hollow" bars, this fish has about 12 solid bars. The irregularity of the bars is also typical of juv. greens; the only other sunny I know of with such numerous, irregular bars is the longear, and this fish doesn't look like a longear to me.

??? bluegill in with comets at petco....thats odd

It is kinda weird at Petco , I keep an eye out there as well as everywhere else, because its not uncommon to find natives mixed in with feeder, goldfish, etc. I think it depends on the source of the fish, most come from Florida ponds which are full of little sunfish, and no one bothers to sort them out before shippment. I have found those once at Petco. Mostly though i find them in the bait fish at Gander Mountain. A good place to look for natives in the winter here in Indiana when its too cold to go to the creek or river :naughty:

Appears to be a green sunfish (Lepomis cyanellus).

WoW !!! Thats kinda ironic, I feed my Warmouth, and Large Mouth Bass, baby chicla

Just ignore the haters, they don't have the capacity to appreciate what lives in their own backyard.

not really sure what it is, i think it might be too early to tell. as far as i care they are cichlids from north america (note: don't flame me, its just my opinion)

Definitely not a blue gill. I don't know about LA but here in New York it is illegal to sale native fish.

Well, I wouldn't be selling them. I would basically be "adopting" them out. People make a donation to the Petco Foundation...we don't actually make any money off of them, it all goes to rescue groups.
