They are one of the fish that DO stunt in tanks but it depends on your tank, as far as reaching 10+" in rivers both the Hart River and Ft. If it's a blueGill they only get about 6 1/2'' or 7 '' in the river's ... unless farm raised then larger .. better food or steriod's I guess...
if you have a river or stream near buy take a sample to test P.H.. so you can replacate it in a tank for that guy .. most likely it's soft to neutral..
