Pardon the newbie but I want to start my quest knowing what type of fish this is, I was given them but they died shortly. I want to buy more, with PROPER care of course but I don't know much about fish so if anyone can help. This might be an obvious fish, but still... Sorry if this is in the wrong place, i didnt know where to put it.

Yep, if you want more, go for undyed ones. They'll have a better chance of survival.

The funny thing is that I never seen undyed white tetras.

they are a dyed fish. you will find most informed fish keepers are against this practice. this is a good read as to why so.....http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/pfk/pages/show_article.php?article_id=72

in short, its cruel to the fish, and puts them at great risk for future health problems, and shorter life span and in the end the dyes end up fading after a few months anyway.

one piece of the article that stands out, is comparing the fish with their size needles used, it is like us being injected with a needle the size of a pencil.

dyed?? :WHOA: oh man I am not buying these again then. Thats terrible. I'll probably start small, what do you guys recommend I get, as a newbie. Something not too hard to find either XD

Glow Fish. They are a little more expensive, but keep their colors for life and are not dyed.

school of White Cloud Minnows. small, tough as nails, fun to watch, personality, no heater needed, relatively peaceful.

it really depends on the size of your tank, and what you want your tank to become.

you can go for a large community of different fish , a large school of same fish, a pair of larger fish, or just a single fish.

let us know the size and we can give you some specific ideas to get you going, and you can take it from there. once you know what fish you want, we can also guide you in setting your tank up and getting throuhg the cyling process, if you dont know about it already :)
