One thing is that those cichlid species are pretty rare. Where did you get it and what was it labeled as?
As I looked online for any info, it became apparent that they are rare, very rare. I received it from a friend who didn't want them anymore. I sold him my dovii frys because he got frustrated that his "Festae's" weren't breeding. I knew they weren't Festae's but decided to take them in. He bought them from a breeder/distributer from Bakersfield. I'd like to know more on the care for these things.

Yeah knowing what they are makes a big difference in care. If they are some sort of theraps/rheoheros species, they need highly oxygenated water w/ a current. I know the Wet Spot Tropical fish in OR. Have these species for sale now. It would be a huge score for you if these are a theraps/rheoheros species.
Duane would know if these are theraps/rheoheros.

To me they look like young, female festae (or at least partially so).
The spot on the caudal covers the top half of the fleshy part of the causal and is surrounded by a light colored ring (both festae traits), and the black spot in the dorsal suggests females.
In my former area, festae were not rare, juvies could be had for @$3 each.
Here are some photos of a few I had.

and mature in breeding color (male 10"+)

to me they do not look like the lentaginosus I had, in lents, the lower jaw is equal to or slightly shorter than the upper, and slightly terminal in the OPs photos the lower jaw extends out, and none terminal

Ty. Ive had festae in the past but never grew them out. I've had adolescent males n females usually at 5-6" plus when I received them. These guys are 3-4" but the head/face is keeping me at bay of calling them out.

Inthe second pic, that's the other fish I received. It had ick and 2 days later the ick is gone. My rtm is healthy as well as the livingstoni
