This photo isn’t the best, but I caught him in October in central Illinois. Sometimes I like to sein/net small fish to see the native species of fish in creeks, this creek had more species but were too fast to catch/corner them. Don’t know the species of this fish yet, but I’m leaning towards a smaller sucker species because of the mouth.

I don’t have any other pictures, but the mouth looks very similar to most suckers. Probably isn’t a red horse. There were a lot of them, schooling, all around 3 inches and haven’t seen any bigger ones, so that seems like their max size. My guess is creek chubsucker as those look the closest in terms of body, slight red on the fins, and mouth.

check if your state has white suckers. thats the only sucker that seems to school in the 2 min google search i did
My state has white suckers, but there are a bunch of minnows and suckers also in Illinois. On the DNR website there are many fish listed there, but only some species aren’t finished with pictures/bio. It isn’t any of the common bigger suckers, one of the smaller species/minnow, maybe a stone roller.
