hello! everyone.

i ned your help with a fish ID.
the pics are not so good, because the fish just wouldn't stand still.

does anybody know what fish this is?

What size is it and where did you get it, there are a lot of cyprinids to sort through.

almost 3 inches.
it came along with some other small, colorful, very common barbs to the LFS from asia. thats all i know.

It could be a Tor or Neolissochilus sp. Are you in the US? Wanna sell it? :)

I think you have a juvenile Neolissochus subterraneus from Thailand, I could be wrong though about the species, if it is they are not all that common even as juvies because they hang around spring outlets and duck back in when disturbed, as adults they are shallow cave dwellers, they get to 9" long and there eyes do not get any bigger than they are now so that by the time they are adults the eyes look very small. They are detritus feeders and will eat soaked flake food and fish droppings, in the wild the adults live off bacterial mats and bat poop.
The scale and dorsal fin count match but this is also true of the N. straceyi, a more common import, butit has much darker markings. here is a picture of adults.

oh! souds like a hard fish to keep if its that one? :uhoh: but thanks a lot for the info. :)

btw. im from sweden

Actually they are suppsed to adapt well, water on the cool side is prefered, to 78 degrees F is fine, nuetral ph, tolerant of fairly high ammonia and nitrites, higher than most fish anyway. They will take black worms and tubifex as well as well soaked flake foods.

ok, he is eating like a pig right now. but i guess i will have to buy some other stuff for him as well then.

and thanks again man!
