First I would like to say that I hooe I'm posting this in the right section. My friend bought a fish from our local lfs and they had it labeled as a Parkinson Rainbow, but it doesn't look quit like one. He has posted on multiple forums around the web but no one seems to have an answer.

It looks similar, but it doesnt have the stripes in its tail. I will see if he can get me a better picture.

Not that I was sure of ID by any means, but there are a number of Prochilodus without stripes in the tail. Although the most common in the aquarium trade, P insignis has the striped tail, other species such as magdalenae, lineatus, and nigricans don't have the dramatic striping. Many of these could have appeared as contaminants in a shipment of fish from S America.

Thank you guys for the helpful information, he thinks he has it figured out based on this information.

I hope this is ok, I know on other forums starting a new thread can be a no no. I bought this guy in a dark fish store and it is definitely not what I thought it was, hoping someone could identify my fish as well. Sorry for the thread jack if I'm not doing this right. I'm guessing a washed out flowerhorn?

No biggie but just to let ya know for future reference, posting your own new threads is NOT a no no here...but posting unrelated photos and queries on someone else's thread is kind of frowned upon.Nice looking fish though.
