Fish in cycle

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I’m glad to know I’m not alone. Did your fish do okay? Mine are fine for now but I know I’m far from out of the woods. Seeing as I don’t have access to healthy seeding media I may start using some bottled stuff. I’ve also heard that it doesn’t work but not that it really hurts anything (except the wallet of course) I don’t mind that. I just want them to survive the mess I’ve put them in.
All my fish did fine. I have Seneyes in my tanks so I monitor ammonia all the time. I remember when this happened to me I think it raised to almost 1 which is a lot. Just gotta monitor and keep changing water. Use plenty of Prime or Safe.
If you are inclined try this stuff:
These "floculents" will cloud the water a tad but I like this stuff.
Also, make sure you don't clean the aquarium
glass for a few weeks until you see the ammonia go down.

Thank you for those suggestions! I just placed an order for the fluval cycle.

I’m not sure if the water changes are stressing the fish but I’m noticing a lot of spilts in the tails of most the of the fish. Not like rotting away or chunks missing but just splits. I’m also seeing a lot of flashing against the rocks or sand and some of the fish are hanging out under rocks or at the top of the tank. Not gasping for air or breathing heavy but just staying there. Has anyone noticed any of this? The ammonia is being maintained around .25 and I’m doing daily water changes of about 50% once I see the ammonia reach .50. I’m also still using prime. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Is it anything I should be too worried about? Are these symptoms likely just stress related? The temp is still at 86-88 for another week but all signs of ich have been gone for about 5 days. Should I add any stress medications?

Tbh this is the down side of doing a fish in cycle. If the fish are healthy they should make it through the cycle process. Yes symptoms sounds stress related to me but remember the fish had Ich so this weakened the ones that were affected. Don't add any meds at this point it will be disastrous.

I definitely didn’t mean to cycle with the fish. Is the ammonia bothering them even though I’m using prime? They seem to be worse right after the W/C but then calm back down. Ive noticed a few doing it this morning. My tap water is 0 ammonia and 7.6 Ph so it’s not the water itself causing the problem. I’m just hoping for the best at this point. They all seem super healthy other than this. I was referring to the stress coat stuff not actual meds.

Haven't used Stress Coat on years but if it doesn't affect the live bacteria or ph then it will be ok to use.
