If it's ich, 86 degrees will disrupt the parasites life cycle enough to kill it. A little salt, and some extra aeration are a good move. Also, before treatment, you could try a good vacuum of the substrate since that is where most of the cysts are resting at the moment. That should pre-empt a bunch of new infections.

Watch the fish if they are struggling with higher water temp since the dissolved oxygen will drop.

Really hate this stuff lol, just done a small water change bit busy. Added salt and raised temp, since I added me new gravel I've nothing but issues thinking In the new year starting again with me whole set up boiling water over everything leave the tank running with some goldies and then re introduce the fish.

If it's ich, you don't need to sterilize the tank (if that's what you mean by 'boiling'.) If not, then ignore my post. The parasite is fairly easy to get rid of by keeping the tank at a high temp of 86 degrees for 7-10 days, but someone else could correct my statement.

It sounds like you caught it early, so need to stress the fish more, unless again, I misread you.

Once your all done treating for ich I would switch out the gravel for sand. Much easier to keep clean than gravel as the detritus stays on top and you just hover over the sand to siphon off the poop, etc. As far as the heat goes I'd leave the temps up for 14 days and make sure you have lots of oxygen, then slowly taper it back down to normal. I have gotten a really resistant strain once before where I had to do the .3% salt and keep the temp bumped up to 88 degrees for a month before it completely eradicated it. I don't recommend the 88 degree temp unless your still having trouble after 2 weeks though.

Ye I want sand in my tank but last time I had it in my 500l i think I used the wrong type an it was more like a cement at the bottom of the tank. Believe it was silver sand baught from a garden centre.
