i would have to say not changing your water more often is a bad idea

i would never dream of letting my tank go a month without a change if i was you i would take the time to do weeklly changes of at least 25% - 40% your fish will love you for it

personally im a huge fan of over filtration as well i over filter my tanks by at least 25% of suggested rate my 180g is done like its a 250G etc...

yea, agreed. the bigger the filter the better. my cater changes are generaly big ones where i vad the floor, that dose two buckets, one bucket is 20 gallons, then the next day i do another one. Its ussaly a 40% change... it alot of debris is found then it ends up being more. it all depends. I would like to do changes more frequently but my schedual doesnt allow for it. Bi monthly is the only thing i can commit to and it seems to be working just fine.

Doesn't algae thrive in a high nitrAte environment, and I know there is a point when it can return the load back into the water...too bad you couldn't spare the time to do weeklys...

When your fish hit the carpet, it's slime coat was absorbed into the fibers...when he was put back into the tank there wasn't anything protecting that side from what's in the water...he will regenerate those lost scales, and he'll replace the slime coat, but the secondary effects are going to be infections...

The easiest way to combat the secondary infections, is water changes and a bit of salt...the temp might be raised as well, because there isn't any breathing issues as yet...

Time and fresh water is all you can do right now...
