Fish jumped out of tank!

Bad news, my congicus jumped out of the tank. I’m not sure for how long either. I have been away in army so the fish are under my parents care. Luckily I came home today and noticed only 4 bichirs in the tank. Checked out and found it underneath my sisters bed. Pic below shows it struggling underneath with all the slimecoat. Was still alive when picked it up. Rushed it over and placed it in tank.
It’s very badly hurt, currently floating at the top of the tank. It is red all over. So far I’ve added salt into the tank and I’ll probably do a water change tmrw.
currently it is producing slimecoat into overdrive, I can see the excess slimecoat floating around in the tank. I am afraid it may not make it, any input of what else I should do would be great. Keeping my hopes up at the moment since it is wild caught so it probably has much higher resilience, and bichirs and very hardy fish.

Whoa that sucks man. Apart from keeping the water pristine and keeping the lights off to reduce stress as much as possible, there's not much that can be done.

Certainly not a great thing to come home to, but you were actually very lucky to get there in time. And, all things considered, that fish doesn't look too bad. Would've looked and been much worse if it had been on carpeting.

Clean water, minimal stress, perhaps isolation for a bit if possible; he might bounce right back. Will you be home for awhile to monitor the situation? If not...or probably even if yes...I would be inclined to put him into a quarantine tank with a mature filter, or into a small tank plumbed together with the main tank. Good luck, I think you have an excellent chance to save that fish.

i would put yellow powder to prevent any bacteria infection. out of all the bichirs i've had or seen, congicus seem to be the best escape artist.

This is so unfortunate. Personally, when a fish jumped out of my tank/ponds, I couldn't get them in time. Happy to at least see your congicus lived.

Small update this is him now. Can see him still breathing and going to the surface for air. Body is white probably from scrapes and dried up. Will do a waterchange now. I have dimmed to the lights to a minimum and switching it on to only check on it. I am not too sure what yellow powder you are talking about.

You are right. Out of all my bichirs only the congicus has jumped out multiple times. The others have never jumped out before. It was only yesterdays case where I hadn’t noticed that the congicus had jumped out for a few hours

I’m not sure if he will make it ☹☹. He’s now floating at the top. He was out of the water for a very long time. Haizzz
I’m not sure if you guys are able to see, but his anus is red. I suspect it may be internal. His tail and fins are turning white which I assume is fin rot.
