Fish keep dieing

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
All my peacocks died my gar are still alive and several feeder gold fish. I will keep doing the temp at 86 ,water changes and use ick gaurd.

Feeder goldfish can be a huge source of illness. I dont use them anymore for that reason

That looks like a pretty bad case of ich, i think peacock bass have scales, so id almost double up the dose. If i were you id be doing two 50% water changes a day and keep the temp up, good luck, hope they pull through

Bad advice! Double dosing meds will kill your fish faster then the ich will. I do half doses on even fish with scales. Always works. If half doses (suggested for scaleless fish) will kill off the free floating parasties (only lifecycle the ich can be killed) why won't it work for scaled fishes. Common sense eh? It's also much easier on the fish and prevents overdosing...

Peacock bass do have scales.
And just because you treat and don't see spots doesn't mean the ich is gone. If the spots are gone it means ich larvae have hatched out of the fish, and dropped into the substrate, they then swim up when a fish passes and reinfect. The time the chemical or salt is effective, is when the ich hatch out of the fish, or out of the substrate.
Vacuuming the substrate when doing water changes helps remove the ich before it attaches to the fish.

Thanks for all the advise I removed everything from the tank, put temp at 85% and a couple water changes. I bought 6 more peacock bass last week and a couple tiger stripe shovel nose. They look good so far

Next time...don't treat with medication and heat-salt. Do one or the other. I prefer and have had success with heat only
