Hi

Im in desperate need of help, I have a 130l tropical tank at the moment and I can't seem to keep the fish alive. I bought 4 guppies and 2 mollies and only 2guppies are left and don't look very well. They are swimming around the top of the tank and hiding in a corner. However when I bought the fish, after a few day 2 of them had babies which I moved to another tank and they are doing fine. I shifted about a year ago and have had trouble ever since, I've even tried gold fish and they didn't survive either. I had my water tested yesterday and it was perfect. I am about to give up and sell the tank but I love keeping fish (when all is good)

i would love love some input from experts

thanks Mandy

I wouldn't give up on your tank just yet. If your water parameters are truly Ok(no ammonia or nitrite, suitable hardness, etc.), then you may have a parasite. What are your water parameters and what kind of filter do you have?

How long have you had the tank setup and running?
What kind of filtration do you have running and how long has it been running?
Do you use water conditioner when doing water changes?
What is the water temperature?
Do you acclimate the fish before you put them in the tank?
Also if its possible, get the water test results, sometimes (in my experience) the guy will test the water quickly look at the results and say the water is fine so you buy more fish, but if you ask to see the results, you know for sure your water quality is indeed suitable
From description, I would try adding more hiding spots, trying hardier fish (Try a common pleco) and when adding the fish, turn the lights off 30 minutes before you release and while they're floating and leave them off until the next day
There are tons of reasons that would explain why the fish are dying. I don't mean to be rude by marauding you with all these questions and suggesting relatively simple methods and basic ideas but they all could explain the cause of death.
Post updates so we can try to help you more, Don't give up and sell the tank!!!

Thank you for that and I know there is a lot more to it. I have replace my heater today as u noticed some water in it and the fish seem happier so I'll wait and see. Thanks for your replies

With a leaky heater it could've been seeping electricity into the tank. Have any chemicals been used to clean inside the tank or anything that could've gotten spayed into the tank?

Hi again no chemicals used to clean. I've replaced the heater and the fish are a little better but I still don't think they are acting normal. They are hiding in a corner and only coming out sometimes. Their bodies seem to be drooping. I have black gravel which I bought from a pet shop, is their any way this is no good for them? I washed it properly when i put it in. Thanks again for your help

I only use black gravel and I've found it to bring out their colors more. It seems like the lighter the substrate the duller their colors are.
