I dont know if it is just me or if i am 100% addicted to buying fish but when i was just starting the hobby for a while alot of times when i would go and buy fish they were so cool for a few days but after a few days they were boring and i would want to go and buy more. But i no longer get this feeling anymore as everyday my growouts are doing new cool things and i am constantly learning new things. Anybody else have this feeling before?

Changing and getting new fish is something that I feel we all do and is good to do. Even though sometimes I may have sold a fish I really liked I find later I live without it and am happy and then I try something new and it's either better or worse.

I agree but sometimes it's hard when mixing fish and sometimes I feel I just don't care about a fish maybe as much as I should like I lost interest in it so it's better to send it to someone else who will enjoy it.

Nope, because I buy fish I know I will enjoy watching progress lol. That being said, everyone sells or trades fish at some point for various reasons. I just sold my ornate and p. Polli because I felt my tank was too crowded and they were the biggest waste producers. And the polli outcompeted everything else for pellet and I didn't want to risk the ornate getting nippy when it gets larger like I've heard they do.

Most fish aren't really like other pets, they don't really have an emotional connection to you so changing owners isn't as big of a deal as with a dog or cat

I get REALLY emotionally attached to my fish. I can not even IMAGINE selling fish like my BGK i would not sell him for 500$ no joke. I get attached to them because i am very emotional... And if somebody says anything i presume as insulting i go off on them. Thats just my personality...

Ive only got "emotionally" attached to two fish in fishkeeping and thats my SB Gibbiceps and a Nile perch. The gibbiceps Is like 20+ years now, I got him as my first fish from our IT guy who have had him a long time to but ive had him for like 4-5 years or so i think and the nile perch I only had for a month before a cichla killed him... :( But it was something with that nile perchs personality that got me attached over it lol

I used to be like that, one of those "spontaneous" fish buyers, especially whenever I see a rare cool looking specimen available, although I've learned my lesson to stop and think about the endless what ifs (tank size, tank mates, feeding, how many fish I got, etc.) before buying new livestock. Now, I would only buy specimens whenever I know that I can house and take good care of it for the long haul. Definitely letting go of fish is extremely difficult, especially when you had it as a baby and you've managed to get it to halfway or fully up to monster status. It's true that as fish grows, they tend to build personality as they get used to the environment around them, which is very fun to observe (this is the best part of being a fish keeper imo).

On the other hand, I'm still 100% addicted to going around to different fish stores during my free time to look at stock just to get a glimpse at different types of fish :)

I think this is one reason i got back into small community fish and shrimp...

So many possibilities and chances to mix and match different fishes, something thats quite hard to do with monsters unless you have a 52K gallon tank like some members here ;)
