Fish keeping getting boring?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i think the key is buying fish you really want to keep and fish that are interesting enough to keep aswell. i often find myself buying fish because its a larger specimen that 1. can actually go in my tank (sometimes i go to a lfs and theres nothing large enough to even cope in my tank) 2. because i convince my self i wont find another of that species large enough for a very long time so take my chance... then i discover i didnt need the fish and quickly get bored realise im once again getting heavily stocked and sell a load on. very irresponsible really isnt it...

i see many people on here spending obscene amounts of money on fish only then to sell them on, goonch for example just sit there until fed and they are sooo expensive, they get to a massive size and cant generally be kept with much! i cant understand why people would keep them? rtc obviously has the cute factor and are personable and active i understand this but not goonch.

have you seen the goldfish and oscar videos doing tricks that is interesting and they are some of the most common fish out there... im getting at some off the most common fish out there are the most common because of what? because they are the most fun too keep!-) i think we are all guilty of not spending enough time with our fish and spending to much time trying to impress people on here with our new buy!

I get REALLY emotionally attached to my fish. I can not even IMAGINE selling fish like my BGK i would not sell him for 500$ no joke. I get attached to them because i am very emotional... And if somebody says anything i presume as insulting i go off on them. Thats just my personality...

I've been fascinated by fish all my life, and I've been in and out of the hobby for nearly 30 years. In the past I would eventually get bored after a couple of years or so, then would break everything down. After a few years, something would trigger my desire to start again and so the cycle goes on.
I got back into the hobby again 2 years ago, but this time it's different. First off, I'm financially sound and own a home which afford me the money and space to keep more and bigger tanks. Secondly, it's the convenient ability to share my enjoyment with other like minds via Internet forums such as MFK. I believe my passion for the hobby, this time, is constantly fueled by reading and corresponding with other highly passionate hobbyists. For this reason, I believe I will remain with the hobby for a long time if not until I'm too old and frail to do regular maintenances.

Mine is now about a foot... Got him at about 5 inches and I've had him for almost 4 years... Pretty slow growers IMO...
