How many commonly-held beliefs about fish-keeping do you secretly believe are just myths???

For example, fish only grow to the size their tank allows (people who believe that have obviously not met my pacu)

Fish can crash through the sides of aquariums (tank busters... many people talk about this, but no one I know has ever had this happen to them...it would seem to be against the laws of physics [can you imagine trying to put your fist through a glass wall while underwater?]).

Any comments about these, or any other good ones you know of???? :D

Your first one, about fish growing only as tank allows I believed for a little while..... What you son't hear is how BAD that is!!!! Also heard that males are always prettier than females..... Not true. Sometimes it is very hard to tell the difference.

Fish...namely godfish only have a three second memory

Native fish need cold water

Those two really bother me.

The three second memory one is good! I've heard that but it was just fish in general. Forgot about that! (hee, hee, hee) Definitely not true!!!! Most people think that fish just swim back and forth and are boring.... Also DEFINITELY not true!!!!

**** I believed that one... the 3 sec. memory. my favorite is the myth that you cant have an arowana in a 50 gal. tank. That's a bunch of malarkey... utter nonsense. The other one I love is the myth about keeping a red tail catfish in a 30 gal. tank.... amateurs. water changes weekly???? what a crock!?!?! once a month if you have time!!!
