Fish knocked out

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have not seen him eat yet but that will not hurt him as he is a good chunk of a fish. I was wondering if he may be concussed. As he swims around not fast but moves normally with his fins and body motion. The only fish in the tank that seems to pick on him is a sulousi spelling may be wrong but a small mbuna.
I don't really want to catch him in case he does freak out in paratherap form. The funny thing is that the female synspillum seems to check on him all the time.
I had thought of setting him up right after it happened but was not sure how he would react.
I don't think there is any spinal damage just that he is kind of still half out of it. Thanks to all for your concern I never thought I would feel bad about a fish. Well at least not such a common one any way but they do grow on you.

Try to slowly slip a divider in if possible, if your Mbuna are showing interest in him he may be in trouble....crank a few airstones

I can't really seperate the tank and it is only the 1 little mbuna that looks at him. He is remaining calm and maybe time will help him most. The tank has alot of water movement at the surface to supply oxygen.

My male silver dollar knocks himself out regularly (at least once every couple of months) when the tetras nip at him, it usually only lasts for a few seconds but once he went absolutely stupid and was out for almost 10 mins, I did exactly what daveandmady suggested and held him in the water flow until he came right, he swam on a lean for a few days but was fine a week later. Funny thing is, my female dollar never left his side, even when I had my hand in the tank holding him, she stayed close by keeping an eye on him. I thought it was absolutely adorable how she reacted to his ordeal. I hope your fish comes right, good luck with him. :)
