Fish Legality?

Most cichlids are legal here. We can't have Tilapia's. Most of the S. American and African's are legal. As far as the navtive species law, California has had that in effect for many years. If it lives here you can't keep it. You can catch it and kill it, but certainly not keep it. They had a real problem with people collecting California kingsnakes, tiger salamders, (and such) and offering them on the pet trade. So now the rest of us are screwed.

you can put it in your tank and take menial care of it

Don't worry, I'll make due with my Tiger Barbs and Guppies. Somethings are better left unsaid!
Also, they won't allow us to own native species, yet we can have Blue Channel Cats (which are everywhere). Go figure.
