Fish lost in transit, help!?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
oh and can anyone tell me what the ammolock and other product (which I forgot the name of, should have copy pasted it) are for? I mean, I'm assuming you mean use it on the water the fish arrives in while I ad tank water to acclimate him, but does that make a huge difference?

You only need one or the other (I prefer Prime) to add to the water in the bag - it will bind ammonia while you are acclimating. Prime also helps to detoxify nitrite, not sure about Ammolock.

This fish would have had a better chance in winter, but I think it's highly unlikely that a 5" fish will be alive after a summer weekend in a shipping facility.

You should have a tracking number - did you pay extra for Saturday delivery, and did the shipper request it? If the person who shipped the fish did not request Saturday delivery, it is absolutely his fault. Most people don't do this because it can double your shipping cost.

If the fish shows up alive it will be highly stressed. Hopefully it is going into QT by itself. You will want to add salt, 1 teaspoon per 5 gallons and I would QT for a full month.

Best wishes.

Okay thanks for the help.

The fish is going into a tank all by itself anyways.
Now here's another problem; :nilly::nilly:

When the fish arrives tomorrow (hopefully alive  ) I will not be here. My family will be, and they sort of know what to do but I will outline it for them and have them do the whole thing over the phone, if it survives.

Do you have any suggestions on any thing else to have on hand to make the fish most comfortable?

Thanks for the help!

All has been said already. Odds are it is dead.
Is your tank cycled already?

Depending on the state of the fish and the water parametres you might want to put it straight in the tank or put it with the ammo lock product ( see the correct dosage ) in a separate container with the bag water and do the acclimatisation.

if indeed it has survived, it will last forever...

I suggest you order stateside, since you have a lot of responsible guys over there and the choice of fish is immense...

ive found its really really helpful to have a ton of hiding places at first, this keeps the fish less stressed.

well let us know if it arrives alive or not-if not take pics UNOPENED and, then open the box, take another pic (with the plastic bag unopened) and then of the dead fish itself-sorry, the seller will ask for this proof if they refund you.

dmed is right about the Prime she recommended-i use it, and its all i will use beside aquarium salt-its the best conditioner IMO out there..

let us know what happens- im keeping my fingers crossed for the little guy!

any updates?
