i am military and we cant do DITY moves from HI and alot of military ppl do not have fish tanks in HI b/c of price......a 55gal tank by itself is 150+ in some stores

There are ways to save money. I have never paid more than $2/gal for any of my tanks (100+ tanks). I shop the used ads, I advertise in the free classifieds (especially around Xmas when people are looking for extra cash), and I shop unclaimed storage. In fact, I have to drive out to pick up a 250 gal, stand, and accessories tomorrow morning. Price: $125.
Before the 250gal, I bought a used 360gal acrylic tank for $220.
The deals are out there (estate sales, divorce sales, etc.). You just have to be innovative and patient for the right deals to come along.

i quit in march 2004 we had a smoking cessatian group health worker who came every week to test our co2 levels to make sure we stopped and we got free patches/gum or those pills to help you stop.
it was a 3 month course and it worked.
i was spending $200 per month as cigs are $8 per pack so saved quite a bit.
the whole fish/tank buying thing was just something to keep me going and to look forward too when i had passed 6 months off the cigs.
i decided to quit as i was sick of standing in the cold smoking when at peoples houses etc

I'm retired navy and alot of families had aquariums around Pearl when I was in. By the time they were ready to head back to CONUS, they'd amassed more stuff than they could take back with their weight limits. That's where we found the deals. Also, it was cheaper to order tanks through the NEX than to buy on the island. I don't know if you can still order through the exchange, though. I've been civilianized for the last 9 years.

yeah, you can still special order tanks thru the exchange. mine gets them from all-glass. they are alot cheaper then buying a new tank at a LFS.

got mt 2 big tanks 4 free from wifes rocket scientist uncle (no joke, i think he works at area 51 , but nnobody really knows) he changes hobbies all the time and he always needs room for bigger and better things. still spend hundreds of $ to get everything how i want it . around here tanks are somewhere in the 2$ per gal range. a lfs has a 240gal acrylic with stand , canopy beautiful setup for $1300. does this sound like too much. the tank is discuonted as it has a large scratch on it.

i would jump on that! here a 125 glas with hood stand and lighting is almost 2gs!
