My water sprite I have now grows so fast I can't keep it down. My convict will eat it, but still can't make a dent in the overall size of the plant.

Is your water sprite rooted or floating? I had mine floating and the convicts ate about 10 plants in a few hours. That may have something to do with your success and my failure. I have not been able to find any good water sprite locally since then.:swear:

I have mine rooted onto a piece of wood. I just thinned it the other week, and gave several root systems to Fabdad, and the plant has already filled back in. I gave him probably about 1/4 of my water sprite in my tank. Grew back so fast its like I didn't even thin it out!

That must be it. Once it's established and rooted they can't destroy it, But left floating they can and will destroy it.

I'll try it out sometime. I'm going to be starting a little con tank, and was going to throw some watersprite in. I'll try a bunch floating and see what happens.

I'm going to drag this thread back from the bottom. I think Harley has the right idea with this thread, and that it should become a sticky but we need more input.

One that I have found to be somewhat dangerous is sailfin mollies. They are fine with thougher and larger plants, however I had problems with them and downoi as they ate the leaves. They are awesome at algae eradication.

RTBS and rainbow sharks and white-fin sharks are all really good for filamentous algae clean up in general as well.

Bristlenose pleco (Ancistrus sp.)
damaged: 1# java moss (Vesicularia dubyana) eats small amounts of mat every day.
1# common salvinia (Salvinia minima) occasionally swims up and grabs one of the little plants to eat, but deosn't adversely affect whole group.

left alone: java fern (Microsortium pteropus), dwarf saggitaria (Saggitaria subulata) unknown apono (Aponogeton sp.)

Perfect keep them coming.

I have noticed that java fern is readily eaten by many different algae eaters.

My severums devoured several kinds of cryptocorine, java fern, java moss, multiple types of sword plants, red ludwigia.

They did not touch anachris or jungle val, however my blue crayfish pulled the jungle val out of the ground and devoured all of the roots and left the rest for dead. He also ate leaves from cryptocorine and new growth of sword plants, but not enough to matter.
