So I am the proud owner of a 14 inch Pacu and have been for a long while now.... for months I feed him along with my other fish every night after work and he knows this... he is always right up in my face eating all the food and even coming out of the water to get the pellets in my hand.
My pacu has always lived with my Oscars without issue but for some reason one night he snapped and tried to eat an Oscar! But I was home and the second he clamped down on the Oscar I jumped up and smacked the Pacu with the prop rod I use on my aquarium lid.... well.... it has been two weeks since that incident and the Pacu still won’t come near me when its feeding time... He remembers what happened weeks after it happened! To this day the Pacu hides on the other end of the tank during feeding time:(

Just thought this was interesting.

Why is that interesting, it's cruel.

No offence mate, but to me you are no better than this guy

OMG I had to shut it off. I started balling. But ya, i agree.

How is he cruel? He prevented one of his fish from eating another fish that he doesn't want eaten clearly lol.... if its a feeder fish its one thing...but im sure his oscar isn't a feeder :P

Maybe you should separate the oscar, and give some room and time to your pacu :D ?

There are many ways of seperating a fish from another, for example by hands or by net. Using a prop rod and hitting it hard is a no-no for me. The fact that the pacu doesn't comes out during feeding time is enough evidence to show that mental damage has already been done.

Anyway I agree with you, he should seperate them

aha prop rod, i just checked.. didnt know he hit it hard,

Well then i must disagree, I thought he like just maybe distracted it or moved the water or something, didnt see the fact he hit the fish HARD?

Oh well... i should get some sleep, drunk as hell :p

hmm, i believe "smacked" is a word form from "hit" and "hard"

You guys are taking this too far. Okay he smacked it with a rod to prevent the oscar from getting eaten. He does not even say how hard he hit him. The mere fact that the pacu is okay tells me he did not try and kill him. You have allow him to settle down before he becomes socialable again.

Agree. This is about moral beliefs. Its just like caning a child. To some parent, it is right but to other parents, its wrong. However if you kill the child, its definitely the gallows.

Lets not argue if it is right or wrong about the OP hitting the pacu, there is no definite answer. We should just be grateful that the pacu didn't die from shock.
