Fish Remember!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Dude. You don't beat up a fish. Wtf.

These responses are almost comical.... lol glad your oscar didn't get eaten dude, pacu will get over it eventually... good to know popping something a with a prop rod ONCE to keep it from eating something is similar at ALL to some asian guy repeatedly physically beating the hell out of a dog for not doing a trick right?

i really doubt he sits there and beats the pacu while trying to train it. relax people. he probably did no physical damage at all. and yes im sure the pacu will come back around. imagine if you were in the same situation when you first started fish keeping i dont think calm and collective would be your first response! and i doubt he is going to do it again now that he knows that fish do remember and have fears/emotions. at least some fish do lol

THe Pacu has now seen you as a predetor.. I doubt it thinks it was punished for attacking the Oscar.. It now sees you as a potential threat. It may avoid the Oscar for awhile because it may corelate the "trigger" for getting popped with the rod. But ultimately in the end the Pacu will continue to harass the Oscar.. you're likely just putting off the ineviatable.. and the pacu is also now alot more likely to do it when your not around.

Fish are smart, But they don't think like a human does.

I think chasing with a net is as *physical* as I get when trying to dissuade my fish from doing things I don't like...But you can't fight nature. A particular instance I am thinking of, is a male gourami was biting at the slime coat of my angelfish. I captured him, kept him in a breeder box until I was able to purchase a female, now he just harasses her, and my angelfish is ok.

To the OP, I'm not going to comment on the prop rod. Just the fact that Fish do remember. I have a 3 inch hole cut in the lexan on the top of my 55 that the Os are in ATM. This is my feeding hole, I'm able to drop pellet into the tank through this hole without having to move the lid or anything.

After a year the Os are "trained" to circle this hole whenever I walk into the room. Even more eratically around 8pm. My Large O will actually swim right below the hole and stare at it practically wagging his tail waiting to see my hand drop in the pellets. I'll have to video the behavior and post it. Friends and family find it quite comical.

Dude u did nothing wrong by useing the prop rod to seperate the fish. Dont let them get to you. They are all acting like u freid it up and ate it. Wich i here is prety tasty. And wouldnt mind trying one day. They are blowing something that was pretty much harmless to your fish out the watter. people man did what he had to give him a break. Starting to think the forum turned into alot of bleeding heart liberals or something. If i recall this is MONSTER FISH KEEPERS we keep fish that eat other fish. Some times you dont want one your fish to be eating and you save it. Good job dude. But i would seperate the fish. And the mods probly gonna close the thread . lol
lighten up people,.

Just so everybody knows tonight the Pacu is eating from my hand again... I thought it was obvious that I was a "proud" owner of the Pacu and I was only stopping my Oscar from being eaten! once the Pacu eats one we all know he will then look to my other fish as food too...

Oh and for all you people trying to make it look like I beat the hell out of some puppy dog or something... get your facts straight and stop being jerks I gave the pacu a tap on the side to get his attention... seriously you people are rude to me for saving one of my fish from being killed?

maybe I should have wrote that I calmly sat down with the pacu and explained to him how eating the oscar was unnecessary...
