Very nice, you should paint the wood a satin black, or dark charcoal grey.
I was thinking of it. But we decided we like the plain wood look.

If you go with the natural wood look, I would suggest sealing the wood with some sort of sanding sealer to help keep out moisture. It won't take long for the stands to start showing sign of moisture intrusion.
I was thinking of just staining them and putting a finish thats water resistant. The first one i made had a twisted 2x4 and im having trouble getting it level. I may redo that and try a stain or paint.

That would work just fine.
I painted mine, but I might not have gotten it thick enough. I have a couple spots that are already showing signs of water intrusion. I'm contemplating a new design or switching to steel, but even that has down sides.
