Fish room setup advice...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Did I see an Aussie Lungfish in the first few pics! Following along! If you mind me asking, where on your property is The fishroom? Backyard? How are you heating?

Yes, on the AUSTRALIAN lung.

Property location is the front yard - have about an acre in my front yard. Will heat the whole unit with its own heat pump upstairs and separate downstairs. Upstairs is an ADU - downstairs is the fish room

I do not think I have room for 12 480s - I still have to fit the 900 gallon in there and still deciding if I’m keeping my 6 by 5 foot tanks. I’m still working through the possibility of a ray pond with a viewing window. Wish EZ ponds was local - (bullfrog Aquatics their distributor here really has no inventory and the prices are not comparable)

as for solar, we have been thinking about putting it in. I have a well which is huge when youdo not have to look at a water bill.

I would like a main filterbut do not want all the systems on one because of the risk of spreading infection if or when it were to occur.

Let me know if you ever get out to the peninsula over here and stop by.

sounds like you have a bunch of tanks already? are you moving the ones from inside your house?

jealous of the well!

thought you were in seattle?

hood canal?

Yep on the Hood canal , used to live in Queen Anne when I was at Hview but been out here over 5 years now.

Have a bunch of tanks but they are an eclectic bunch. I also picked up that 900 gallon tank that was for sale around here - that is definely going in the new fish room. Right now it is a large paper weight in my forest until the bottom floor is finished.

Would love a doorway that wide into my fishroom. ?

looking good! is it 2 story?

did you design or have someone draw it?

is Jefferson county reasonable?

have you stated to plan tank placement yet?

To answer your questions in order.

The structure is 2 stories - the 2nd story will be an ADU - I’ve considered trying to sneak reptiles onto the 2nd floor, but I may be strung up by my wife if I tried.

Had an architect design it - In retrospect, wish I went bigger - I didn’t know I had the room - I had to take down 2 huge 100 foot cedars to start the project and it made a lot more room.

It’s Kitsap county - I had to go through the permitting process which was painful and took a long time - had to actually call to the housing and labor department and ask for the inspector of the day to get them to review the application. It was sitting their for what seemed to be an eternity.

I have been tinkering with tank placement. I’ll add in a crappy rendering of what I was thinking from an iPhone app. Trying to decide what to do with the wasted stair space (filter room or rack for smaller fish like my hypans)

It's coming along. The white spray paint on the walls is where water outlets will tentatively be placed - 3 outlets per wall.

Still tinkering with placement. Deciding if I want the stingray pond in the middle of the room or the back wall.

Any thoughts on that or any thing else?

cheers!
