I've never kept a rtc but I'm pretty sure it isn't hard deciding on tank mates. as long as it can't fit in the cats mouth. but from what I've seen at zoos is that once they start to get around 36" you can then start mixing them with "smaller" fish like cichlids, Leporinus, etc because they are just to laz to eat them. but once again I've never owned one(i don't have a multi-thousand gallon tank/pond) but they are easily my favorite fish so i spend a lot of time researching them and going to zoos to see them.
Fish RTC can be kept with :)
