Fish safe crabs or crays?

i keep australian redclaw crays (cherax quad) with a variety of your small standard fish such as fighters, tiger barbs, zebra danios, black widdows and platys and they have never bothered them. I believe this is because of the amount of bogwood and caves for the crays to hide in aswell as the size of tank for the amount of fish kept in there. i also use floating plants like guppygrass/watercress for the fis themselves to hide in which helps if youre keeping smaller varieties of fish. I would also suggest that larger peaceful fish that are reasonably quick and do not have long flowing fins are also compatible with crayfish and they tend not to bother each other. i hope this info helps you make a decision. cheers.

That definetly is a very cool looking tank Imisim, love all the hiding spots and what you did with the planters. I am curious though about the post above that said crab need land to crawl on to. Have you found this to be true?

Imisim, how did you carve those openings into the plant pots? I've been wanting to do the exact same thing with my breeder/feeder crayfish tank but I'm not sure how to go about putting semi-circle holes into the pots without cracking or breaking them.

imisim... how big are your crays? i saw the one picture and they seem to make the cories look big. i had some rough experiences with my cray and pleco? lets just say pleco lost.

my feeling on crays with fish is that the fish have to be fast and middle or top level swimmers. bottom dwellers are gonna be a problem. one of my plecos disappeared at the hands of my crayfish which is probaly around 8" or so. i dunno how u measure them exactly.

my feeling on the smaller shrimp is that theyd probably get along with small tetras and such but anything to big will likely see them as food.

I personaly would never put a large cray with fish, i have big quadricarinatus that kill evertyhing and i also have peknyi's in al large fish community that dont bother anything at all.

Boxfish Askew:

The fiddler crabs do come up often. I have the turtle ramp as well as floating plants for them. The red claws crabs prefer to stay in their caves. All of them will come down at feeding time.

I use a Dremel.

That the dwarf crayfish which you see with the cory. I have too many of them to count.

The blue crayfish are about 5 - 6". You see one of them with the GN's.

The shrimps and drwarf crayfish keep on multiplying. The blue crayfish and crabs doesn't bother anyone. The blue crayfish always yield to the pleco when it come to food. They will try to sneek in to grab one and bring it back to the cave. It's even better when you see the blue cray try to steal the green bean from the crab. It's a comical scene. I will try to take a picture of the shrimp riding on the blue crayfish and crab if I can catch it. :)

My pleco "lost" against my C. Quad also. He lasted about a minute after I put him in the tank and then he was a goner.

imisim, I will have to try those veggies. I offered her some romaine lettuce the other day, but it went uneaten. She does seem to enjoy the Hikari algae discs/sinking catfish wafers, and I tried out a small salad shrimp yesterday which I see is half gone.
