Hi All,

What do you think about the cichlid size that can be kept in a 22G tank? You'll never believe what I've got in my 22G tank.

Thx,
MC

Yep, the GT is of about 6", the Pacu is around 7 to 8", Blood parrot - 5", Red Devil 5" and Copper Oscar 5"... :( All these fishes when I bought were hardly 1 to 2" max. This is the 4th tank upgrade I'm planning to do cause these guys are growing pretty fast. They all started it with 10G tank 1 yr 5 months ago.. they all are in one single tank.. :(

The current tank dimension is L-36", W-12" and H-12"...

You're telling me you have all those fish in that tiny tank? If they're that size after a year and a half they are SEVERELY stunted from you improperly housing them. Are you even aware of this?

yes yes... I'm aware of it... I had some financial problem but they kept on growing... I tried to sell them but you know this is a small city. Now that I'm all set to upgrade the aquarium for the 4th time... I wanna know what's the best space I can provide them... I shall post a pic of the entire setup pretty soon.. but they seem to be easy living with it..

How did four upgrades get you to 22 gallons? 10, 15, 18, 22? Just wondering. Odd to make such tiny incremental upgrades.

For your current stocklist, if your fish were to grow to adult size with the pacu, you'll need a minimum of 500 gallons. Without the pacu, you could probably get by in a 175g or 210g barring aggression.

The best tank space? Hundreds of gallons, especially if you want to keep the pacu. But they're likely so stunted at this point they won't live very long...

For future reference, it's great you're taking the time to research now and make an effort to house your fish properly, but people on this forum are going to give you a VERY hard time for housing those fish in that setup.

come on I was in a fix I couldn't sell them nor upgrade the tank, but now I can... probably I should sell the Pacu first somewhere out of my city.... I've been having fish tank from past 10 years. My first tank was of 10G I usually was with moleys and guppies. After that I got into this cichlid mania, I bought a GT and Pacu. First was a 10G, then 14G with 1 to 2" GT and pacu, next it was 22G with the above mentioned stock. I'm supposed to do my 4th upgrade now.. I would rather go without Pacu (sell it).. so what would be the best I can go for with the cichlid of that size..

it's never good when ppl say "you'll never believe what i got in my *insert insanely small tank here* tank" but dude, seriously ... 22g??? i have 2 22g tanks on either side of MY BED. How can you do that to your fish? If they're not tryin to rip each other to bits, it's only because they don't have the room to do it. Also, what filtration u rockin, cos if i did that to my fish they'd jump outta the tank!!!!! All i can say to you is work out exactly how much space you can possibly spare in your home, and get a tank that big, cos it's fairly obvious you're gettin your tanks based on space and money, rather than gettin them based on what your fish actually need. i understand the whole "i couldn't sell them or upgrade" issue, and i appreciate that you're looking to do some research now so you can upsize your tank allowing for future growth, but your case should be used as an example of why you should research breeds BEFORE their purchase. For the record, i have 1x 13inch oscar 1x13inch pleco 1x14inch saratoga 1x 8 inch jag, 1x 5inch wolf and 1x 8 inch jack dempsey in one of my 200g tanks. My other 200g tank is going to house my male wolf, while my cubans are going to live in thier own 100g. My 22g tanks by my bed house my catfish and my gf's "nice commmunity fishes", and also serve as a hospital tank should the need arise (currently my 8inch oscar is recovering from a run in with my wolf in the tank with 3 bristle noses.
