Fish Size = Huge Price Increase

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
We'd sell a big JD for 30 bucks maybe, assuming it was in good shape. ratio of size vs price depends on the type of fish; if people want it, how fast it grows and how easy it is to keep.

For example, a really big Hydrolycus characin would increase dramatically, as they are hard to raise beyond a certain size. Something like a Pacu practically loses value. Big catfish like TSN go for pretty cheap when large as they are cheap to buy, easy to raise and pretty much everyone starts dumping them at 2 feet.

At my work a 6" jack sold the other day for $10. More than that and they just tend to sit for forever. THe little ones at 3" and $5 are hard to sell. Other big fish tend to be pretty cheap as well if it's a trade in. Most of these sell for what it would cost from the wholesaler.

At the local shop they had a gorgeous 13-15" female jag for a month or three listed for 50$. When I brought that jag up in conversation with the owner he asked if I wanted her 10$, no?, 5$? If you want the big fish at the shop, it doesn't hurt to talk to the shop.
If I would of had the means to take care of her, I would of taken her home in a heart beat.
*lesigh* If biggest tank on the show room floor is a 125, most of your clients have 55s and under, and you are doing brisk trade in RTCs, big cichlids, pacu....these things will happen.
