fish smell?

Maybe it's dirty clothes.

Even one hiding massivore pellet can really reallllly smell.

i keep my place very tidy thats why this smell is frustrating me., it could be a pellet ill have to cheak when i get home although it seams unlikely, there is green moss or alge i dont know what you call it (sorry) growing on some drift wood and the back of the 7x2.5x2. i dont mind the look because it looks natural, the drift wood does leach tannin so perhaps it could be rotting dirftwood?

it does leach tanins and rot very slowly, but its unlikely to be the cause unless its extremely rotten in the core or something. tanins wont contribute to the smell of the more then a green tea bag, even then its a earthen smell.

You don't have any ornaments from big w do you? I remember I got a cut in half plastic log there, which was meant to be for a fish tank. But it made the tank smell so much. I took the log out, and after 2 days the smell dissappeared.

Tanks should smell like fresh potting soil when properly clean.
Ahhh I got it right then. That is precisely the smell they give off :)
