There is no way in HELL that any SA freshwater ray could survive a full year here in SOCAL waters. Sure they would thrive and grow here in the summer months, but come winter when most standing bodies of fresh water are in the 50s on a warm day, they would die off quickly. As well as any piranha, cichlid, or any tropical fish for that matter...
EXACTLY. that is why i have such a problem with these absurd laws. nobody uses common sense these days :screwy:

Likewise Mr. Cardona. I also have a problem with people from other parts of the USA and the world assuming that our state is as temperate as Florida and that we could possibly support feral populations of tropical fish... Heres a news flash for Madding and all the others that think that way.... THEY WILL ALL DIE IN THE WINTER !!!!

Actually, to shake the "Rays NEED warm water to live" boat a bit, they can handle some chilly waters. I've seen it with my own eyes, you'd be surprised. They would do just fine in So Cal.

We don't have to like laws. However, if someone blatently and knowingly breaks a law over and over again, do you not think he should be punished? No government will ever be perfect.

You show us proof of any tropical fresh water ray that can tolerate 55 degree water for 5 months out of the year and Ill take back all that I have posted in this thread. Until then I will never believe it. This may be sunny Southern California but winters here get pretty cold.

Maybe they will last for a good while but I doubt they will be able to reproduce.

Personally I think it's more of taking a look of what happened in Florida and being overly cautiouse it doesn't happen in Cali.. But I also personally believe no one shouldn't be allowed to keep a certain species period. Thats what there are permits for. I think it's more of a "what if" then a "They will"

Knowingly breaking the law.. is imo alot different from not knowing and breaking a law. One's willfully being naughty, the other is ignorance. How many people in Cali think rays and other illegal species are legal to keep from this guys flagerant disobeying of a law? Bad ethics.. and the aquarium industry itself pays for it the most.

all this drama and posting on different boards for piranhas and stringrays? :screwy: i hope they never catch him
I agree. The punishment should fit the crime. And if he serves one minute behind bars,it does not.

This is sooooo sig worthy.I've lived in Cali, and in Iowa. I'd take Cali winters over Iowa's anytime.

so i guess most of you think it's ok to tell your children, its ok to steal a piece of gum as long as you don't steal the whole pack. Breaking the law is breaking the law no matter what state or how absurd we think the law is thats the bottom line.
