Here is an Idea I would like to throw out there I was looking at my tanks which I have 9 of, some have a bunch of fish some have a few fish and a couple have just plecos and cories in them just keeping them clean ,
Here is the idea ,
lets have a fish swap , as most know I breed fish as many of us do !
I sell them , trade them and some times give them away , we can pick a date like a month or two away and a place to hold it , then in another post everyone who is interested can post a fish or fishes that they no-longer want or just have too many of ,that they want to bring to the swap
ex/ I have a 30 inch bowfins that is growing just too big for my tank
that I am willing to trade for a arrowanna
Joe blow from new jersey says man I would love to have a bowfin , and I have a jardini I no longer want because hes just too mean !
but alex from dc says I would like that bowfin myself , I have a jardini as well
he might want !
so at the swap there we could have a sign up paper where people who have an arrowanna who are interested in the bowfin can put down thier name !
since there is two people with an arrowanna and both want the bowfin
we would draw one of the names from from a hat , and bam we have a swap !
now for the other guy who has the arrowanna but no trade partner his fish gets a page of his own jardini arrowanna and people could sign up for that one
Or we can just do it online and at the meet do the swap
ex/ I have a 30 inch bowfin I am willing to trade
this is what im interested in
jardini arrowanna
peaccock bass
tiger datnoids
flowerhorns
etc.......
now the jardini and the bowfin may not be worth the same money , but thats not the Idea the idea is just to trade a fish that you dont want or your just willing to trade , and to go home with a new fish that you want , I know I traded 5 fish that I had many of for 1 fish that I wanted and neither one of us ever talked or said mine are worth more than yours ! In the end I made a good friend and got a real cool fish
I realize everyone isnt like me and cash is all that matters to them , for those they can just stay home !
we could have a fish auction and donate the money to the victims of new orleans

now i know this might be kinda hard to do because some fish might be really fragile and kinda hard to transport , but for people who know what they are doing and are avid fish enthusiats shouldnt have a problem I know the fish I will be putting up can last a long time in a bucket with no problem !
if you ask around there are people who have tranported fish in rubbermaid containers with a internal filter long distances without any problems , damn I had a dude come to maryland from massachussetts to pick up some fish from me
and didnt have any problems getting them back home he brought something called bag buddies he used with great success !
although the internet is a great place for people to meet and to chat to me its very in personable , I think this would be a great oppurtunity for us fish collectors to get together see the faces behind thier screen names and have a good time and make some new friends
feel free to give your suggestions on this topic , im sure it can be done
and if it gets big enough we could even rent a hall and hold it of course we would have to charge something to offset the hall rental
