Fish tank outside??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Also, is it possible to make a stand with wheels, but yet sturdy enough to maintain the weight of a 100gal? If so, i could just push it in during winter which would make everything much simpler.

It should be hot in Argentina right now if i am correct. I think you should make a experiment by taking a jug of water and putting it outside for a day or two in the shade and check the temperature. If the temperature does not rise too high then you are good. Don't worry if the temperature goes a little bit over the top because the more water there is, the longer it takes to heat up and your going to have a 100 gallon. Good Luck!

I am positive that is not a good idea and many people here will tell you this.

Ok, I'll make sure to do that little experiment. I'm currently in Brazil visiting my parents, so i cant post pictures of the patio. I have on of the wall that is it going to go on. However, it is before we bought the house and before we put rocks on that wall, anyways its just to give an idea. In the picture is the most sunlight it gets, and the tank would go about a foot more to the left against another wall that is not shown in the picture, that will provide shade. I drew a paint picture showing the source of sunlight and such.

I'll ask my sister that is living in the apartment to put bucket of water there and measure the temperature before and after.

Thanks a lot to all, and i look forward to more advice.

in the picture of the wall, its like that towards the back(from where the picture was taken, to the right, which would be a side of our apartment building. Behind the wall my neighbor has a patio, and then his building goes up. I never get sun directly from above either for some reason. To the left, there are 2 buildings and a 5ish foot gap between the 2, that is the only space through which sun comes in. But the wall should provide shade to the aquarium.

Your math is off. 300w heater would be enough in a heated living room, thats 3 watts per gallon,on the low side of whats reccomended for a tank in a heated room.outside at close to freezing temps think more like 15-20watts per gallon
20x100=2000watts of heaters. That may or may not be enough.Youd have to keep a close eye on it.

Yeah, so i would need a whole bunch of heaters. HAHA, i can't believe i put that 300/100 is 30... Believe it or not im studying to be an engineer and i cant even divide that..

Would insulating all the sides (exept the front) of the tank help?
