Fish tank weight

Wow, I would have at least picked up and hid all the junk and made my bed first, but yes you should be able to replace your current large tank with a new, slightly larger one...and didn't you at one point have at least one tank sitting on the carpet that you posted a pic of? And BTW I've witnessed my cat jump from the floor to the top of my tall tank(approx 68" floor to lid) many times without much issue, so with a determined cat there is no such thing as too high.

Still the same advice: make your current tanks nice looking, quiet...and sustain a clean room; you may find new spaces besides in your room be available for a large tank...if your patent's finances allow.

My room is only clean when people come over. Trust me, when people walk into my room they think 'omg its a lil bit a heaven!' With the exception of the crowded and congested fealing and not being able to easily stretch your legs all the way.

X2, my sisters old bengals i swear could jump from the ground and grab on to things that were 6' and up... never underestimate cats, if they want to get up they will, and chances are you may not even know it... heck, my sisters cat used to have a few hiding places that took us ages to find...

I agree with ecoli73 on this... maybe if you kept your room and tanks clean 24/7 and managed to lower the noise level of the filters, then your parents would be more willing to let you have a tank in the living room...

I know if my g/f brings back something hideous its going to be kept out of sight for sure... on the other hand, bring in something nice, and i'd be proud to show it off...

thread = TL;DR...
my 2c; if you're putting a large tank upstairs what matters more than the total gallons is the footprint. You could have a 600g tank on the second story no problem if it was only 18" hight and set up so the weight was spread across as many joists as possible. I don't see why a 125g would be a problem unless it was one of those ridiculously tall and skinny tanks that for some unknown reason seem incredibly popular in the hobby. Get yourself a tank made that is only 18" high, 5-6' long and 2' wide and get a stand made that distributes the weight evenly across the floor (ie has a flat base rather than individual feet) and if possible run it lengthwise across the joists and close to an external/structural wall and you will be fine, IMO.
