Elblingo here,

About a month ago my mum bought a kitten from a breeder for my little sisters birthday, we got the kitten riddled with fleas, we treated it withh advocate and we were literally sitting there for hours every night for about 4 days just picking fleas off, watching them drop off, it wasn't nice, we would have gotten 100+ fleas off her. The dog now has fleas and has a flea allergy that isn't treating him to right. We've come to having to flea bomb the house with special canisters that pretty much spray out a fine mist of chemicals that you place in each room, flick a switch and it sprays it all over the room. Harmless to humans once its all settles. But I have quite a few fishtanks placed around the house and I am trying to figure out how to shield them from the mist because it will obviously be harmful to them, whatever falls into the fish's medium is always breathed. Some have glass lids other smaller tanks don't. I was thinking maybe just cling wrap them to the extreme. Anyone else ever run into a problem like this before? Any ideas?

You DON'T want to have air pumps running while you're bombing. They'll push the pesticide into the tank...

Cover the tanks tightly (with a plastic sheet taped to the tank, another plastic sheet and a couple of blankets for good measure), turn off air pumps and hope for the best.

Pesticides and aquariums are a bad idea. Make sure everything is covered with a tarp or blankets well. Best way to treat for the fleas is to get the advantage flea shot from a vet and then just vacuum the house multiple times a day for 3 weeks.

Yea I think I will cling wrap the tank and heavily tape it down. Will have to turn the filters off too. Fingers crossed they will be fine, I will make sure every tank is sealed air tight.

I worked in a warehouse last time I bombed and had access to the pallet wrap with the handle. Definitely turn everything off. I piled my pumps and cords on the lid and then sealed everything off. Cling wrap should work fine.

I've only ever wrapped my tanks in blankets/towels to cover them and never had a problem with the bug bombs. Just unplug your filters and pumps for a few hours while you're treating the house.

At the hardware stores they sell 4mm plastic sheets that people use for drop clothes when painting rooms, or moisture barriers when laying false floors in basements, etc. Get that.

You can cover the whole tank and stand (top down, not bottom up) and tape it down at the bottom to the stand. (I wouldn't use cloth tarps as they will let pesticides penetrate.) Turn off all the pumps and leave them turned off until long after the room has been bombed and then ventilated. Use fresh charcoal in the tanks for a couple days as they will adsorb pesticides. Be prepared to do a water change.

Cross your fingers.
