Fish tanks in garage?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They do make chillers but it would probably be cheaper to insulate and aircondition the garage

Why dont you get rid of one of your other tanks and at least get to keep the 180???

I keep most of my tanks in the garage. More than 50 of them. In the summer months the temp in the garage gets over 90 most of the time and very close to the 100s.

I don't use any chillers or air conditioning to lower the temp. The fish (Angels mostly) breed like crazy sometimes every 5 days. The other tropicals seems to have no problem with it either. I also keep Discus, Bettas, Guppies, Cichlas, and Arowanas. For a while, I also kept African Cichlids, Swordtails, and mollies in the same garage.

In the winter I use a space heater to raise the garage temp during the few days the outside temp falls below 60.

Heating your garage in the Winter in your State might make a big dent in the pocket book, though.

If you can do as Onikun suggests, you should be ok.

Yeah I think I'm goin to clean out my basement this month....So I can put some or all my tanks down their....My basement looks like s**t so It's gonna be pretty hard....lol....But thanks for all the help....

plus, trying to heat/cool a tank in taht sortof environment would be hell on electricity bills... in the winter, id be willing to bet a heater would be on constantly. you'd end up spending $200-$300 a month just to try and regulate the temperatures.

hope you got a good heater in there (garage and tank), and in the summers, hope you have a nice chiller :) or a/c'd garage
if so, then shouldn't be a problem...

Yes have had fish room in the garage for years. A few fundamental points, 1 get an extractor fan the sort that comes on automatically from moisture supplied at all good bathroom shops. 2 a small dehumidifier if you have open tanks ponds etc. 3 insulate everything. 4 a thermostatic heater. This is over kill but every thing is covered. From freezing cold to hot.
