Fish the LFS can't get rid of

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my LFS had a fahaka puffer for over a year. the thing was about a foot long and probably cost the owner lots of money in shrimp. I made him an offer for half of the price when I had the room for it, but he said no. I think he ended up giving it away months later.

The LFS near me has about 3 or 4 tanks that are absolutely STUFFED with giant oscars, JD's, plecos, pacu, plus a couple bala sharks and tinfoil barbs. All the typical Petco-monsters that people eventually are unable to care for. I've seen some that have been there for years. I doubt anyone buys them, they just hang out there until they die, like a miserable fish-retirement home. Most of them are so deformed and beat up, I can't believe they have the nerve to actually put a price tag on them.

Good rebirth of a dead thread!

One of mine has a 21" ARTC which even though they're giving it away for free they haven't been able to shift for over a year.

that's crazy maybe it's az but out here someone would have snatched that up in a heartbeat.

at the lfs here it's the typical plecos, pacus, etc that got too big for someones tanks that hand around the store forever.

The lfs closest to me has a 7" Buttikoferi and an equally-sized Red Devil/Midas. Both have a pretty reasonable tag, I'm shocked they're still there.

One LFS has a giant african lungfish and a foot long RTC they can't sell...

My main LFS had an EBJD for 3 months 'till I bought him, and they have those needle gars (Not really gars, right?) all the time, that never sell. And a monster black pacu

Needlenose Gar are usually Hujeta Pike Characin, Rocket Gar (Another kind of Pike Characin) or, the fish actually known officially by that name, the Asian Freshwater Needlefish. They're all awesome fish but not easy to care for.

my lfs has a huge display tank in the front of the store with a 3 foot chainlink moray that they wont sell. and they always have some smalll tanks with different breeding fish that they wont sell...

a jade goby for 30 bucks they have it on feeders

omg.. so many. one of my LFS has a big moorish idol no one wants, probably because of their mortality rate, another has a 4' (yes foot) ramora thats been there forever, and I have watched a poor gold piranha grow up at a LFS for about 2 years. I was tempted to start a tank for him cause i've literally watched him grow from a quarter size to about 10 inches.
