To op:
I have put every fish you can imagine with my old red eared sliders. And trust me on this. It will be eaten. Ive had fish that would fight the turtles for food, jump out of the water to escape the turtles, and even get lodged under objects to escape the turtles. But in the end no matter how long the turtles and fish last together, unless the fish is 10"+ it will be eaten. Even if it is over 10" it can be eaten. Ive had oscars with red eared sliders and they would constantly be torn apart. At one point i kept africans and they were killed. Kept parrots, also dead. Anything and everything that cannot out swim or outsmart the turtle will die. Ive had like 10+ plecos being nibbled on or killed. If you still want to try. Throw in a bunch of minnows. I mean like 40 minnows. This should last about a week or two. When there is a school of 5+ left put in your large cichlid. I would suggest adding a cichlid that is at least 1 inch bigger than the turtle so that it can defend itself. This is what i had to do to put in my brothers old comet he gave me. It was a cool looking comet. Good luck.

My turtle would chase down and try to eat every single fish I put in her tank the first time. She did succeed too. That was the very first time my turtle was introduce to fish, she was not young and about 5". However with a bigger tank and a bunch of structures for my fish to shake off a pursuing turtle, my turtle eventually got tired and realized the fish aren't worth it because more energy is expended than absorbed from the catching a fish. Make sure you have ton of structure too, I recommend heavy rock work, like the lake Malawi kinda deal. I've found that they are the best structure for a fish to escape turtle.
