fish to tank size?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you do it to a tall fish like a mono or altum angelfish their fins will be sticking out of the water!

Body mass to gallon would be a better comparison admittedly but since we dont have fish weight easily at hand its pretty impossible.

Yeah that's what we use at work. We measure our densities in kilograms per cubic meter lol.

I personally wouldn't scale it that way though, to me the ratios would be skewed the smaller you go; though admittedly I don't have evidence to support why I feel that way.

Talking about Oscars though, its the age old conundrum; I remember I created a topic about Oscar tank sizes, and water change schedules in a 90 gallon, people were freaking out lol.

I usually just eyeball tanks to fish, if it doesn't feel or look right i change the tank/upgrade whatever.

I always figure 10 gallons per inch length of adult fish, so to me a "minimum" for a couple 12" oscars is 120 gallons.
Or minimum for some 1" neons, is a 10 gal.
You can get away with a smaller amount for bettas, or some killis because they live in puddles in nature.
But any fish that comes from a river that could be a mile wide, and 20 ft deep requires a bit more spacial consideration.

That skews of pretty bad the bigger you go tho, 4ft tsn in 400g... Its just a bit curious how the maths goes comparing the suggested minimum for an o don't you think?

This is exactly why I hate "minimum tank sizes"
